Medieval Conques in a Global World
and the Time of Pilgrimage
How to create a European first-class project
Ivan Foletti
A pilgrim walking through the medieval landscape perceives time in a unique way. The rhythm of his life is synchronized with the landscape and the artistic production he encounters. The medieval town of Conques is a key site of the pilgrimage route to Santiago. Pilgrims have been coming here for nearly one thousand three hundred years and experiencing extraordinary encounters. The project presented in this lecture aims to enter into a discussion about this exceptional place through a comprehensive and interdisciplinary approach. Specialists from five countries and different disciplines are brought together to work on the project combining the knowledge and skills of the humanities, engineering, and natural sciences. Thanks to the generous support from the H2020 MSCA-Rise programme, such ambitious research is now possible.
The lecture is part of the Czech European Researchers' Night 2021 and will be streamed live on September 24, 2021.
